The sunny Adelaide Plains wine region is just 30 minutes from Adelaide, and offers parklands, rose farms and good food and wine. The Italian community who helped pioneer the region brought a passion for produce – olive oil is a specialty – along with Italian grape varieties.

Despite being so close to the sea, this low-lying region is warm and dry, with good conditions for growing grapes in high volumes.
Just north of Adelaide, the Adelaide Plains is bordered by ocean to its west. Its sun-drenched plains stretch east to the Barossa Valley.
The weather is generally warm, with hot, dry summers, mild winters and low rainfall.
Soils are mostly red-brown sandy loams, with some patches of clay soils.
The Adelaide Plains is renowned for its rich, full-flavoured Cabernet wines. These are sometimes blended with Shiraz and Merlot.
Shiraz varies in style, with the region’s small producers making elegant wines in a style normally reserved for cooler climates.
These are refreshing yet bold wines with flavours of tropical fruit and ripe peach.
Colombard is well suited to the warm climate of the Adelaide Plains wine region, producing fresh, vibrant white wines similar to Sauvignon Blanc.
