Henty is one of the coolest wine-growing regions in mainland Australia. Plenty of sunshine and various hills and slopes make it well suited to growing high-quality grapes.
About four hours from Melbourne, the Henty wine region covers a large part of Victoria, stretching from western Victoria to southern South Australia.
It’s often quite cool here, especially at night. Winters are cold and wet, summers are warm and dry.
Soils vary across the region, and include rich black volcanic clays and patches of terra rossa.
This variety is well suited to the region’s cool climate, producing elegant wines with citrus flavours. Many can be aged for a decade or more, developing toasty flavours without losing their hallmark elegance.
The Henty wine region is capable of producing excellent, elegant Cabernet wines with classic flavours of blackcurrant and cedar.
