Strongly associated with Argentina, and its traditional homeland of France, Australia is increasingl making itself known as a third home for Malbec.
Malbec has a long history in Australia, with the first vines being planted in the late 1800s in Langhorne Creek. Traditionally grown in bulk and used as a blending grape, today Malbec is increasingly found as a single varietal wine.
A variety that thrives at high altitude and in warm conditions, excellent Malbec can be found coming from warm, semi-arid regions in South Australia and Western Australia and also high-elevation regions hugging the Great Diving Range, like Orange, Canberra and the Yarra Valley.
