Winery Overview
The Adelaide Hills is at the centre of South Australia’s wine country and one of Australia's most vibrant cool-climate wine regions with over 100 wine labels and 55 cellar door. It is acknowledged internationally for its distinctive premium wines, viticulture and stunning scenery.
The region is located in the Mount Lofty Ranges east of Adelaide, the capital city of South Australia. Stretching in a narrow band approximately 90km long, the highest vineyards are sited between up to 700 metres altitude.
Bordered by the Barossa Valley to the north and McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek to the south, the Adelaide Hills is one of the largest geographical wine regions in Australia, and amongst the most diverse in terms of climate, soil and topography. The region also consists of two registered sub-regions, Lenswood and Piccadilly Valley.
While the region was planted to wine grapes in early days of South Australian settlement, most of those vines were removed by the 1930s and the region turned to other agricultural production. Revival came in the 1970s and early 1980s when the cooler climes and elevation of the Adelaide Hills were seen to provide ideal conditions for high-quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir production for still and sparkling wines alongside the more standard varieties of the day: Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot.
Today the vast diversity of the Adelaide Hills’ micro-climates and winemaking styles yields wines across the varietal spectrum that appeal to a range of palates.
The clear strength, though, is wines that are elegant and textured with purity of fruit and the acid structure to age and evolve gracefully. Both the wines and the region are increasingly recognised on the world stage.
Importantly the Adelaide Hills is also the closest Wine Region to the CBD of Adelaide making it a favourite quick getaway, weekend long lunch or cellar door tour destination.
