The Beechworth wine region was built on a spirit of innovation. Today its wines are unique and exciting.
The rugged hills around Victoria’s Beechworth are home to an independent wine community. It’s a growing region where small, family-run vineyards and artisanal winemakers produce premium, cooler-climate wines, both white and red.
The wine region surrounds the carefully restored gold-mining town of Beechworth, home to heritage architecture, boutique shopping and restaurants. Out of town, cellar doors and walking trails attract a steady stream of visitors.

Beechworth is an elevated, hillside region with a continental climate that varies throughout its different altitudes.
Beechworth lies at the foothills of the Victorian Alps, about three hours north east of Melbourne. It’s a hilly area that’s part of the North East Victoria winemaking zone.
The region has warm, sunny days and cool nights in summer, while winter gets chilly.
Soils in the Beechworth wine region are mainly old sandstone, gravel and granite over clay. These soils restrict the growth of grapes to produce concentrated and intense wines.
