Wine Description
Hand picked from our Old Block (planted 1948, clone unknown- we call it ‘Olivers Old’ locally) on the 28th of March, and our Rayments Block (1654 Clone, planted 1996) on the 24th of March. Machine destemmed and berry sorted with a light crushing. All cold soaked for 3 days at 5-8 deg C. Vinified in open fermenters, indigenous yeasts, no sulfur, tannin or acid additions. Press off at 1be and malo in barrel. All French hogsheads- 35% new. Sulfur post malo, couple of rackings, blended & bottled without fining in September 2019. 1021 six packs made.
HJ Oliver is Herbert John Oliver. 4th generation of our family to run the property and my grandfather. He pulled out the original vines (almost 100 years old when he did), took cuttings and replanted our Old Block in 1948. We haven’t quite forgiven him! But luckily he replanted, so now we are lucky to have the Old block producing wonderful intense old vine shiraz.
