Wine Description
Always picked on the cusp of ripeness with some whole-bunches retained for the fermentation which is more of an infusion than an extraction. The fruit here is sourced from 5 different Grenache vineyards across the Barossa & Eden Valleys all aged between 60 & 155 years old. Each varietal component was fermented separately, resulting in more fruit definition, purity and accessibility. Bottled unfined and unfiltered under Stelvin capsule.
Accolades
James Halliday 96/100: Beautifully and harmoniously structured and textured, clarity and purity are its watchwords: 50% Grenache, 30% Mataro and 20% Shiraz; wild yeast-open fermented with 10% whole bunches, 14 days on skins, daily plunging and pump overs.
Winemaker's Bio
Alex Heads pathway was unusual - a degree in biochemistry from Sydney University, then experience with wine retail, importers and an auction house, but it explains why he makes such elegant wines. "The inspiration has come from the Cote-Rotie in the Northern Rhone Valley." - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2022
