Wine Description
Very small parcels of fruit from vineyards up to 100 years old are hand-picked, fermented with some whole-bunches and blended to make this traditional Barossan wine. Racked once during elevage of 12 months in larger barrels (some new) and always with a small addition of Old Vine Grenache for balance. Showing all the richness of fruit you would expect from Barossan Shiraz at its best.
Accolades
James Suckling 95/100, James Halliday 96/100, The Wine Front 95/100. James Suckling writes: This has rich blackberry and raspberry aromas with cloves, spicy oak, red plums and violets. The palate is very plush, deep and smoothly textured. Ripe tannins stretch long and carry blueberry, dark-cherry and blackberry flavours. Drink or hold.
Winemaker's Bio
Alex Heads pathway was unusual - a degree in biochemistry from Sydney University, then experience with wine retail, importers and an auction house, but it explains why he makes such elegant wines. "The inspiration has come from the Cote-Rotie in the Northern Rhone Valley." - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2023
