Wine Description
Fruit for this wine came from three sites: the Tempranillo from dry-grown, low-yielding vines in the Clare Valley; the Grenache from ancient vines in McLaren Vale; and the Mataro from old bush vines in the Barossa Valley. The resulting blend is a youthful ruby red with purple hues. The nose is bright and intense with aromas of morello cherry, red currant and tamarillo, and hints of aniseed and tomato leaf. The palate has hints of satsuma plum, mulberry and sweet spice supported by fine acidity and soft structural tannin. The oak influence is minimal, creating a fresh and satisfying drink.
Winemaker's Bio
As Winemaker Adam Barton tells it, he first discovered the magic of wine while working in the Hunter Valley, in a glass of 1965 Lindemans Hunter River Burgundy. After studying Oenology at the University of Adelaide, he embarked on a winemaking career that so far spans two decades and three continents, with work in McLaren Vale, Coonawarra, the Barossa Valley, Western Australia, the south of France and California’s Central Coast.
Adam’s winemaking approach for Atlas Wines is typified by careful curation and nurturing of the highest-quality grapes, the utmost care and attention to detail, and minimal intervention.
