Wine Description
Made with fruit hand-picked from old dry-grown vines in the Watervale subregion of the Clare Valley, this single-vineyard wine represents the pinnacle of our Riesling production. Cool January-March temperatures delivered fruit with high natural acidity and a palate structure which enabled us to craft a wine that is both delicate and assertive. The fruit was chilled and gently pressed in reductive conditions, and the free-run juice allowed to settle at low temperatures before being racked and fermented using cultured yeasts. It was fermented to complete dryness and bottled immediately to capture the natural freshness and fruit characteristics of the vineyard.
Winemaker's Bio
As Winemaker Adam Barton tells it, he first discovered the magic of wine while working in the Hunter Valley, in a glass of 1965 Lindemans Hunter River Burgundy. After studying Oenology at the University of Adelaide, he embarked on a winemaking career that so far spans two decades and three continents, with work in McLaren Vale, Coonawarra, the Barossa Valley, Western Australia, the south of France and California’s Central Coast.
Adam’s winemaking approach for Atlas Wines is typified by careful curation and nurturing of the highest-quality grapes, the utmost care and attention to detail, and minimal intervention.
