Wine Description
After discovering Yarra Valley wines 25 years ago Lou Primavera planted this vineyard in Hoddles Creek in 2001. 100% handpicked, all fruit is chilled overnight to 12°C. Indigenous yeast fermented in small oak fermenters. Clone 115 was fermented as 100% whole bunch, while the MV6 was destemmed, soaked cold for five days, then allowed to warm gently into a wild ferment. All parcels were matured in French oak for 8 months (25% new, 75% older) in 225L barriques. Racked to blend, no fining, no filtration. Bottled by gravity.
Winemaker's Bio
Prior to pursuing his passion for wine, Steve Flamsteed developed many culinary passions, including cheese making, which would take him to France to study his trade. But it was after working at Chateau du Bluizard in Beaujolais that he was inspired to become a winemaker. Steve graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1993 from Roseworthy Agricultural College. Prior to joining Giant Steps as Winemaker in August 2003, he worked for Leeuwin Estate in Margaret River and Yarra Burn Winery in the Yarra Valley. Steve is a Len Evans Scholar and has completed several vintages overseas, including in Alsace and Brouilly, and is an experienced show judge.
