Wine Description
The Mataro vines are over forty years old and produce fruit with dark and expressive fruit. With rich sweet berry fruit, dried herbs and a touch of orange rind on the nose. Mataro's typical earthiness quickly appears on the palate along with swathes of sweet fruit, black olive tapenade, choc mint and spicy notes.
Winemaker's Bio
Derek Fitzgerald studied a Graduate Diploma in Oenology at Adelaide University after completing a Chemical Engineering degree in 1998. His career started in the Hunter Valley NSW before working for a year in the Great Southern region of WA.
Since the mid 2000s Derek has worked in various wineries in South Australia with fruit from Barossa Valley, Eden Valley, McLaren Vale, and Langhorne Creek. In 2016 he and wife Kirsten established Paisley Wines in the Barossa.
