Wine Description
Chardonnay thrives in Padthaway’s limestone soils and cool climate. The perfect combination of variety, soil and climate. We grow two clones of Chardonnay: 277 and 95 to bring extra complexity to our Chardonnay.
Fermented and matured in French oak the palate is vibrant with lithe acidity. Grapefruit, Pink Lady apples and peach are supported by a subtle cashew nut note. Beginning to show the complexity that it will possess in five or more years. Meanwhile it is a gloriously bright and refreshing Chardonnay which will pair with delicately flavoured dishes or the pristine, saline twang of freshly shucked oysters.
Winemaker's Bio
Carolyn is Landaire’s vigneron. Carolyn firmly believes that quality and style are set in the vineyard. She hands-on manages the vines for optimal quality, selects the grapes, the timing of harvest, and the final blend of the Landaire and Eliza wines. Of Swiss-heritage, Carolyn was born in country Victoria and studied Agriculture at Melbourne University, completing her PhD in the field of plant biochemistry at Adelaide University. Her post-doctoral work was at CSIRO in Adelaide. In 1998 Carolyn married David and moved to the Padthaway wine region and together they planted their premium vineyards and established Landaire Wines.
