Wine Description
Take flight with ‘The Gaggle by Merrill’, exceptional wines designed to match your mood. Created to engage with the next generation of wine consumers who want to have fun while drinking great wines with younger and fresher wine styles combined with some terrific new modern packaging.
Well known for the geese that inhabit the grounds at their cellar door in Mount Hurtle, South Australia, each of the ‘by Merrill’ wines features a playful stage name along with an illustration of a goose, representing a member of the Merrill family. Each wine has been carefully crafted to reflect the unique characteristics of the family members symbolised.
Geoff Merrill has forever been known as a bit of a larrikin with a long history of making very serious wine. Wines that are often held back for late release, so they have time to properly evolve in the bottle and show their full potential. Aimed at targeting a younger audience, Geoff has embarked on launching an exciting new ‘drink now’ style of wines.
These fresh, lively wines are designed to drink now, so don’t lay these golden eggs in the cellar.

Winemaker's Bio
Young Geoff Merrill was raised on a sheep station in the far north of South Australia, until his family moved to the Barossa Valley in 1964 when Geoff was just 11 years old. Unsurprisingly, this is where Geoff’s links with the wine industry were first forged.
At age 17, Geoff joined B Seppelt & Son where he embarked on a 4 year winemaking traineeship. Following this, he was lured to South Africa in 1974 with the opportunity to work as an Experimental Winemaker with Stellenbosch Farmers Winery, after which he set off to explore Europe.
Returning to Australia in late 1975, Geoff joined Chateau Reynella as Assistant Winemaker and was promoted to Senior Winemaker just 2 years later. He held this position until 1985 when he became a Consultant Winemaker for Thomas Hardy & Sons, who bought Chateau Reynella in 1982.
