Winery Overview
Nestled in the foothills of the Warramate Range, Helen & Joey Estate’s story began in 2010 with the acquisition of an 80-hectare property in the Yarra Valley. Today, this thriving vineyard is tucked away on Spring Lane, where it flourishes as a testament to vision, craftsmanship and regeneration.
Originally established as a farming enterprise selling grapes to others, Helen & Joey envisioned creating wines that truly capture the essence of the land. From the outset, they committed to crafting wines exclusively from their own vineyard.
Helen & Joey Estate has cultivated a diverse portfolio of 100% Estate fruit wines, each reflecting the distinctive characteristics of its vineyard. Situated in the warmer end of the Yarra Valley, the estate nurtures a range of grape varieties, from the early-ripening Chardonnay and Pinot Noir to the later-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Shiraz.
The Unicorn range captures the essence of the casual and unpretentious Australian lifestyle, offering primary, fruit-forward expressions that are as enjoyable as they are approachable.
Wayward Child wines represent the untamed spirit of our vineyard. These are “nothing added, nothing taken away” wines—fiercely unapologetic, low intervention, wild fermented, and unfiltered. Wayward Child wines are our honest expression of the land, made in small quantities at our estate, where our winemaking team is encouraged to push boundaries and experiment.
Re’em wines draw their inspiration from a mythical creature mentioned in ancient texts, sometimes referred to as a unicorn. Re’em is where tradition meets modern elegance, offering a premium experience that speaks to the grandeur and complexity of the region.
The story of Helen & Joey’s owners is one of perseverance, heritage, and a deep connection to the land. Their unicorn emblem symbolizes grace, determination, and authenticity, qualities that are reflected in every bottle they produce.

Winemaker Bio
Adam McCallum brings a wealth of experience and a deep connection to the Yarra Valley to his role as Winemaker at Helen & Joey Estate, which he joined in 2024. Born and raised in the region, Adam began his journey in wine through local hospitality, before a chance encounter with Steve Webber led to his first vintage at De Bortoli Wines. This pivotal moment launched a career that has spanned over two decades and taken him to leading wineries including Yarra Yering, McPherson Wines, Frankland Estate in Western Australia, and Domaine Matrot in Burgundy.
Adam spent over a decade working alongside Clare Halloran at TarraWarra Estate, where he honed his skills in crafting site-expressive Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Guided by mentors such as Steve Webber, Dr Bailey Carrodus, William Downie and Timo Mayer, Adam has developed a winemaking philosophy grounded in minimal intervention and a focus on allowing the fruit to speak for itself.
At Helen & Joey Estate, Adam continues to champion wines of elegance, balance, and authenticity. He believes that great wine doesn’t have to be expensive—it simply needs to reflect the vineyard and vintage with honesty. With a calm, thoughtful approach and a deep respect for the land, Adam leads the estate’s winemaking with a steady hand and an eye toward continual refinement.
