Winery Overview
McLaren Vale is one of Australia’s oldest and most celebrated wine regions, with a long history of excellence in the production of world-class premium red wines. South Australia’s viticultural origins began in McLaren Vale in 1838. The region’s Mediterranean-style climate and landscape - warm, dry summers, mild winters and our idyllic coastal location - provides ideal growing conditions for a vast array of traditional and emerging grape and wine varieties that are contemporary and perfectly suited to modern wine tastes.
Our winegrowing utopia attracts some of the most talented and creative minds in winemaking, whose innovative approaches are evident in the constant evolution of the region’s wine styles and diversity, bringing out the best in not only our traditional varieties of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache, but also in the growing range of Mediterranean grape varieties that thrive here.
McLaren Vale’s growers and producers are the Australian leaders in sustainable winegrowing. Our abundant natural assets and stunning coastal environment has sparked the widespread adoption of sustainable practices; nearly 40 percent of our region’s area under vine is certified organic and/or biodynamic, we are home to the first and largest recycled water network in Australia, and Australia’s national sustainability program – Sustainable Winegrowing Australia – had its origins in McLaren Vale.
Of our region’s 7,308 hectares (18,058 acres) of area under vine, over 90 percent of our plantings are dedicated to red grape varieties. Over 80 percent of plantings are in traditional varieties, however our region is also fast becoming known as an epicentre of new and emerging varieties and wine styles, excelling in the production of climate-appropriate red and white varieties including Fiano, Montepulciano, Nero d’Avola and Tempranillo and Vermentino.
We invite you to experience how McLaren Vale, one of Australia’s oldest names in wine, is leading the new face of Australian wine – bright, innovative and sustainable.
