Winemaker Bio
Our Chief Winemaker, Jim Urlwin, grew up in the Barossa Valley with wine always on the table has now been in the wine industry in some form or another for around 22 years.
Jim studied Winemaking at Adelaide University but found learning on the job more fulfilling.
His first vintage was in 1997 in the Barossa Valley, followed by several in the Clare Valley before four vintages in McLaren Vale.
His real passion however has been hand crafting wines from the premium cool climate Langhorne Creek region. Jim started with us in 2008 and has been honing his style and techniques ever since.
He has developed a deep understanding of the potential of Langhorne Creek grapes and the richness of the wine styles this region offers.
He relishes the opportunity to work with the oldest vineyards in the region and has exclusive access to the World’s Oldest family-owned Cabernet Sauvignon vines.
From these vineyards he uses his skill to create well balanced and structured wines using our state-of-the-art winery and the best oak barrels.
Jim is married and a doting father of 2 young boys. In his spare time, he enjoys cooking, sailing, fishing with friends and of course trying and learning about new wines.
