Winery Overview
The family planted their first Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon vines in 1891. This makes the Cabernet Sauvignon the oldest family owned Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard in the world and the Shiraz the oldest in the Langhorne Creek region.
The original plantings by current owner Guy Adams’ great-great grandfather led to the estate known as the “Metala” Vineyards, recognised as one of the most famous in South Australia. The business has evolved from five generations of grape growing tradition and, at 300 Ha, is the largest family owned vineyard in the region.
Langhorne Creek is the largest premium cool climate grape growing region in Australia and for years has been one of the wine industry’s best kept secrets. All wines are entirely estate grown and made.
The wine styles are focused on structure, texture and balance. Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz are the main varietals as well as Malbec and Chardonnay.
With over 20 years Export experience the wines are now in Singapore, Japan, South Korea, China, Malaysia, USA, Netherlands, UK, Italy and Canada. In fact more than 80% of sales are Export. An experienced team can assist in all aspects of compliance and shipping.
Each parcel of grapes is fermented in small batches to ensure the potential from every aspect of the vineyard is maximised. Depending on the batch, we can vary the yeasts, fermentation temperatures, skin plunging regimes, and the total time spent on skins.
Again, patience and time is the essence, to allow for slow and complete extraction of colour and flavour.
The restraint taken ensures firm but not bitter tannins, and the very old vines maintain a wonderful natural acidity to provide structure and backbone. Brothers in Arms works on an aged release program, ensuring our wines are food ready before release, which gives us a great advantage in the on trade.
