Winery Overview
Pizzini are pioneers in the production of Italian grape varieties in Australia. Pizzini are located in the King Valley, they have been growing and making wine from grape varieties such as Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Pinot Grigio, Arneis, Verduzzo, Prosecco and Brachetto since the early 1990s.
They make a varied selection of wines from sparkling Italian varieties to delicious, easy drinking wines that pair with food, to a range of wines that are a reflection of the strength of their site. Pizzini make some of the best examples of Sangiovese and Nebbiolo found outside of Italy and can boast 30 years of consecutive vintages of Nebbiolo – possibly the only winery outside of Italy to do so.
The King Valley has established itself as a reliable and consistent region for growing Italian grape varieties. The shallow, iron rich rocky soils on the gently undulating slopes make perfect sites for Sangiovese, Nebbiolo and Pinot Grigio. While the more fertile zones along the King Valley floor leading to the King River grow fragrant Brachetto and crisp Arneis.
Winemaker Joel Pizzini has contracted Alberto Antonini's wine consulting services since 2002, using Alberto's advice during vintage and blending to help shape his Sangiovese and Nebbiolos. Recently Joel has started to work with world renowned soil management consultant Pedro Parra to help inform viticultural decision making.
The family's cellar door welcomes visitors daily and guests can join a cooking class in A Tavola! Cooking School or enjoy an antipasti in the grounds with friends. There is always a warm, Italian-style welcome at cellar door.
