Winery Overview
The Swinney family has been farming at “Franklands”, a 3,000ha grape growing and grazing property on the banks of the Frankland River in Western Australia since 1922.
The family’s vision is to create wines that sit alongside the best in the world for their variety, while speaking of their home on the ironstone gravel hilltops above the Frankland River.
The family’s winemaking philosophy is driven by the recognition that extraordinary wines are only made in the vineyard and to produce truly outstanding fruit requires an absolute commitment to a meticulous level of attention to detail – from site selection through to vineyard practices.
Small pockets of the vineyard are dedicated to producing grapes for the family’s eponymously named Swinney label, including their flagship Farvie wines - a designation reserved for the very best their vineyard can produce.
The Swinney vineyard management practices include dry growing, organic farming principles, intensive shoot and fruit thinning and careful, deliberate bunch selection from fruit growing either on the morning side of the canopy or protected by shade cloth.
In 2021 the Swinney vineyard was awarded Young Gun of Wine Australian Vineyard of the Year.
