Husband-and-wife winemaking duo Julia and Bernard share a profound appreciation for their country, soil, vines and history.
Every bottle they produce for Juliard Wines reflects the couple’s meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to sustainable and biodynamic practices.

Bernard's connection to the vines is a heritage he proudly carries.  He learned the art of grape growing from his father, Barry Morey, of the renowned Sorrenberg vineyard along with his mother, Jan Morey.

Driven by a shared love for viticulture and a dream to create something of their own, Julia and Bernard decided to return to Beechworth after living and working in the Yarra Valley.

They embraced the challenges of starting their label, Juliard Wines, while also starting their family. The wine label name is a portmanteau of ‘’Julia’’ and ‘’Bernard’’, symbolising their partnership and their fresh take on winemaking tradition.

Juliard Wines first started with Shiraz back in 2018, using a blend of Beechworth and Yarra Valley fruit.  In the past few years, Bernard and Julia have continued their voyage with Shiraz and added a Chardonnay in 2021. Due to the low fruit yield, they have not yet made another.

Rose has been a staple wine and the latest release, 2023 Rose, is made using Grenache and Shiraz. They’ve also added a GSM to the range.

Julia and Bernard share a belief that wine begins in the vineyard and that climate and soil are essential in shaping the characteristics and quality of the fruit.

“The most important thing to be in touch with in viticulture is your land, understanding your land and working with it to ensure you are benefitting the most in quality as well as also being beneficial to the land and vineyards,” Julia says.

“When you think about what makes Australia wine unique on the world stage, the first thing that comes to mind is climate and, with that, comes the exploration of winemaking and sustainability around our diverse climates around the country."

“Having such diverse climates means that winemakers can explore different varieties to create world-class wines, all the while being committed to sustainable viticultural and winemaking practices”.
