Climate and Altitude

Langhorne Creek is a low-lying region with a maritime climate. The biggest influence here are the winds that blow in directly from the Southern Ocean, across Lake Alexandrina. They keep temperatures cooler and more consistent and prevent frost that can damage the grapes.

The Environment

About one hour’s drive from Adelaide in South Australia, Langhorne Creek is on the Fleurieu Peninsula, nestled between the Adelaide Hills and Lake Alexandrina.

Climate

The weather is cooler here than in many other South Australian wine regions because of the winds that come across Lake Alexandrina. Summer is quite warm and dry, winter is cold and most rain falls during winter and spring.

Soil

The fertile soils of the Langhorne Creek wine region are mainly deep, alluvial sandy loams.

Top Varieties Grown
