Winemaker Bio
Discover the passion and expertise of Rick Staniford, our Senior Winemaker at Bunnamagoo Estate. With a deep love for Chardonnay and a commitment to pioneering sustainable practices, Rick has crafted a remarkable winemaking journey.
Rick's affinity for winemaking began in his teenage years, labouring in a micro-scale two-acre vineyard. Inspired by the outdoors and nurtured by his parents' small vineyard and winery, he embarked on a formal education, pursuing a BAS Viticulture/BAS Winemaking at Charles Sturt University in 2006.
His journey took him through diverse winemaking regions, from Canberra in 2009 to Margaret River in 2011, with experiences at Pooles Rock Wines and Spring Creek, Marlborough. Returning to Australia with Agnew Wines, Rick steadily climbed the ranks, from Cellar Foreman in 2014 to Assistant Winemaker in 2017, finally being appointed Winemaker in 2019.
In 2023, Rick Staniford became the Winemaker for the Paspaley family's Bunnamagoo Estate. His passion for Chardonnay resonates with the Paspaley Family's equal love for this varietal, and he expresses excitement about working with both emerging and traditional grape varieties.
Beyond winemaking, Rick is a devoted horticulturist and advocate for sustainable practices. In 2022, he achieved certification under Sustainable Winegrowing Australia (SWA) for all Agnew Wines vineyard sites and the winery. Looking ahead at Bunnamagoo Wines, Rick aims to implement similar sustainable procedures, focusing on efficiency improvements, waste reduction, and a philosophy of minimizing our impact on the environment through constant improvement.
