Winery Overview
Flametree Wines burst onto the Australian wine scene in 2007 by winning the prestigious Jimmy Watson Trophy for its first ever red wine. Since then, Chief Winemaker Cliff Royle has forged an international reputation for the brand, particularly for his unique approach to the craftmanship of Chardonnay in its various styles.
The winemaking team at Flametree applies a distinctive skill in combining a mix of old-world winemaking principles alongside cutting-edge, innovative technologies. As a result, a number of Flametree’s star wines display certain characteristics which make them stand out in a line-up of a blind benchmarking or wine show tasting.
The beauty of Flametree’s portfolio is its versatility. There are three distinct tiers on offer to cater for a broad range of markets and consumer preferences. The ‘Embers Range’ wines punch well above their price point in their quality and value. These are approachable, food-friendly styles with fresh and lively aroma and flavour profiles. The Core Range, aptly titled ‘Flametree’, offers classic Margaret River varietals and blends made to the highest pedigree.
In particular, the Flametree Chardonnay has achieved outstanding national and international acclaim via a myriad of wine show trophies and glowing reviews and scores from reputable wine journalists. Flametree’s highest calling in winemaking shines through it’s S.R.S. (aka ‘Sub-Regional Series’) wines, a powerhouse of elegant, complex, more savoury styles which typify the remarkable attributes of each of the unique terroirs within the Margaret River Wine Region.
Boasting a successful history of exporting wine across the globe, our team is well equipped to advise on wine selection and ready to assist with samples and promotional support to ensure a mutually successful partnership. Significant third-party endorsement helps our international partners establish strong and sustainable markets for our wines as well as strengthening the combined narrative of our brands.

Winemaker Bio
After completing a Business Degree and working for several years in wine retail, Cliff Royle decided to go back to university to complete a Bachelor of Applied Science (Viticulture & Winemaking) at Charles Sturt University NSW and set his sights on a career in winemaking.
With over two decades of winemaking experience under his belt, Cliff brings an intimate knowledge of Margaret River winemaking to his role. Prior to Flametree, he was Chief Winemaker at Voyager Estate in Margaret River, where he was responsible for winery operations over a ten year period that saw the winery more than double in size. Under his leadership, Voyager Estate received numerous accolades, both at home and overseas.
In terms of personal recognition, Cliff was awarded Winemaker of the Year by Winestate Magazine in 2003 and was a finalist in Gourmet Traveller’s Winemaker of the Year in 2005. Cliff has also been active in wine judging across the country; including Senior Judge at the Royal Melbourne Wine Show and Royal Perth Wine Show over a number of years, as well as judging three years of the James Halliday Chardonnay Challenge. Additionally, he’s played a pivotal role in kick-starting the Margaret River Wine Show and has been a committee member since the show’s inception.
