Winery Overview
Gippsland Wine Company is passionate about crafting exceptional wines from boutique vineyards; creating beautiful, handcrafted wines that reflect the unique terroir of Southern Gippsland.
Gippsland Wine Company (GWC) is a small, award-winning wine producer based in the tiny village of Loch in South Gippsland, Victoria, a leisurely ninety minutes’ drive south-east of Melbourne. Established in 2010, vigneron Mark Heath and partner Jane Taylor grow premium fruit on small parcels of land in their local area, nurturing previously abandoned vineyards back to life and to flourish. Vines are hand-pruned and hand-tended using sustainable principles and grapes are hand-picked. They work with their wine-making partners to craft the fruit into wine they are proud to share, wine that shows the terroir of soil and cool climate of the beautiful South Gippsland region.
The home vineyard at Loch was planted in 2004 on a sloping, northerly-facing aspect, with Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay traditionally cane pruned to achieve optimum quality fruit. GWC maintain five other local vineyards situated in South Gippsland growing Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. These are supplemented by Syrah, Viognier and Riesling grown by our grape friends throughout Gippsland and the Mornington Peninsula. The distinctive wine labels of GWC pay homage to the vineyard sites where the fruit source originates.
With many trophies, and gold and silver medals awarded over the years, 2024 saw Gippsland Wine Company's 2023 Loch Village Chardonnay receive a high gold, Best White Wine, and Best Wine in Show at the Gippsland Wine Show, the GI's premier event. This wine is now a contender for the prestigious Victorian Premier's Trophy Award to be held in June 2025. Mark and Jane believe in sharing the joy of wine with others and fostering a sense of community around their passion.
