It is known that ’great wine’ is made in the vineyard. In the mid 2000s we set out to select a property that would deliver every advantage of cool climate, undulating topography and ancients soils. we found our hidden gem, a 50 acre site first planted in 1997, located down a country lane in the dress circle of the Warramate Foothills of Gruyere. This pristine area nestled at the base of the Warramate Range and ’South of the Maroondah Highway’ ("so-ma = SOUMAH), is home to some of the most prestigious vineyards in all of Australia. It is from here we fashion wine with the charm of Northern Italy but the provenance of the majestic Yarra Valley.

Scott McCarthy, Winemaker Paul Viggers, Viticulturist

Winemaker Scott McCarthy was born into viticulture, growing up on a family vineyard in Mildura. He began his career in 1989 with Yalumba, then went on to gain worldwide experience in the Napa Valley at Oakville Ranch, Loire Valley at Jacques Lurton and over to Malborough at Rapaura. In 2005, Scott designed a new winery from the ground up which formed a base to produce our super premium wines.
