Winery Overview
Kym Teusner, the creative spark behind Teusner Wines, has led a Barossa resurgence with his fresh approach towards hero varieties; Grenache, Mataro and Shiraz. His deft winemaking hand crafting a portfolio of delicious wines that have captured the hearts of peers, critics and consumers alike – “wines I’d like to drink and which reflect the heritage of the Barossa”.
It all started from an eavesdropped conversation in a Barossa pub. A couple of grape growers were discussing the potential ‘grubbing out’ of their 85 year old Grenache vines. Kym’s ears pricked up and together with then business partner, Michael Page, a deal was quickly struck. The vines remained in the ground and the fruit was secured for the venture ahead.
What Kym overheard wasn’t simply the planned removal of historic grapevines, it was the intuitive recognition of an opportunity to create the kind of wines he believed in and wanted to make. Wines of quality, character and complexity, uniquely Barossa, undeniably Teusner. Wines to make a lasting impression and above all, wines to be enjoyed again and again.
Teusner is built on a belief in the unique signature of Barossa’s old vine fruits, a winemaking process which centres on human attentiveness and decision making, as opposed to mechanical or digital methodology.
From the outset a deep, mutually respectful working relationship with Barossa’s grape growers has been a feature of Kym’s work and, according to Kym “at the heart of everything is patience, taking time to do the right job…and with a sense of fun and enjoyment in the work we do and the results we achieve.”

Winemaker Bio
Kym, grew up on a sheep and cereal farm near the small town of Tailem Bend, on the banks of Australia's largest river - The Murray. Keen to spread his wings, he moved to Adelaide to study business management where he also found work in a local restaurant. It was here that the wonderful a world of wine was first uncovered and armed with a new passion, Kym undertook several wine courses in his spare time. Once his business studies were complete, he hopped on a plane and headed to the wine regions of Napa, Sonoma & the Rhone (with stops in LA, NYC & London). It was during his London stay that Kym decided to take the plunge and apply to the University of Adelaide to undertake their Oenology (Winemaking) degree.
With a winemaking degree now under his belt, Kym commenced work in the Barossa Valley with Torbreck Vintners. It was during this time that Teusner Wines was formed, with the first wines produced in 2002. This was seen as conflict to his then Winemaking role, so Kym decided to leave and commence work with Rolf Binder at Veritas. Kym happily credits Rolf for allowing him the freedom to develop Teusner Wines to where it is today.
Now some twenty years on, Kym has received countless accolades and Teusner Wines has an enviable reputation for consistently producing a range of Barossan wines of quality, character and complexity - “wines I’d like to drink and which reflect the heritage of the Barossa”.
