Winery Overview
Since 2000 Wills Domain has established itself as a pre-eminent boutique Australian winery in the world renowned location of the Margaret River Wine region.
In 2008 highly acclaimed Australian wine critic, James Halliday awarded Wills Domain the coveted “Red” five star rating in his annual Australian Wine Companion.
Wills Domain is a family owned wine business destined for greatness. Their passionate pursuit of excellence is reflected not only in the Estate’s Wine but also in their on site Restaurant which has gained much respect, including winning the coveted WA Good Food Guide’s "Regional Restaurant of the Year" over several years, receiving 2 Hats in the National Good Food Guide and a place in The Australian HOT 50 “Hall of Fame”.
With over 600 years of viticultural excellence, the Haunold Family, father and son vigerons since 1383, were bestowed land and title in Austria under the permission of Grand Duke “Albrecht 3rd”.
Transposed through time and tradition the Haunold family continue this family tradition, upholding the premise held by their forefathers now in ancient Australian soils of the renowned Margaret River Wine Region, in the South West of Western Australia.
Wills Domain sits on top of the rolling hills in Northern Margaret River’s Gunyulgup Valley. This sub region of Margaret River consists of steep, sun-drenched northern and western slopes high above the Indian Ocean. The calming maritime influences combined with the sites elevation and ancient red gravel soils form a vine terrior that is the envy of Australia.
From this enviable land, the Haunold family produce wine from 1985 planted own rooted vines.
Since 2000 the efforts of Vineyard Manager Ernie Lepidi and Winemaker Richard Rowe have united exceptional vine husbandry with the unique sub regional climate and ancient gravelly undulating slopes of the Gunyulgup Valley ridge-line to grow fruit destined to achieve extraordinary qualities.
