8 points Vino Masters - Bottle No: 0425 Winemaking: 10% whole bunch natural ferment with the rest whole berries, basket pressed into 20% new French oak hogsheads. Opaque and deeply coloured. The nose is intense and layered, showing red and dark fruits with black pepper, mocha and beautifully integrated French oak. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated, delivering dark plum and blackberry with earthy undertones and a clear thread of minerality. Firm tannins provide structure, while notes of chocolate and coconut add richness and regional character. The finish is long, powerful and assured, with exceptional depth and persistence. A classic Marananga Shiraz, rich, structured and confident, with outstanding concentration and clear cellaring potential. ★★★★★ Powerful, layered and impeccably structured. Jeez, the fruit in this wine is pure. I mean bonkers pure and generous and speaking clearly of its western Barossa roots. Plum, blueberry and boysenberry, exotic spice, light bunchy amaro notes, purple floral top notes, lightly chewy, fine tannins and an expressive, vibrant swell of fruit and spice on the finish. A distinctly modern Barossa shiraz done very well indeed.
