Wine Description
In Australia, we can no longer call our port wines “Port”. This is reserved for wines produced in the Douro Valley in Portugal. The defined term for this style of wine, as described by the Australian Wine Industry Fortified Wine Code of Practice is Tawny. Tawny describes the orange “tawny” colour of port wines matured in wood. Tawnies are blended wines of different ages and often different varieties as well.
The Pfeiffer Classic Rutherglen Tawny contains 26 Portuguese varietals, all planted on the Sunday Creek vineyard. It is a drier style tawny, with lovely hazelnut and vanilla flavours, and a palate of great persistence.
