Winery Overview
Established by Emanuel and Laura Skorpos in 1997 Flinders Run is nestled on the western slopes of the beautiful Southern Flinders Ranges, with the magnificent ranges to the East and Spencer Gulf to the west the region enjoys a beneficial maritime influence, this region’s unique terroir makes for ideal growing conditions to support the production of the premium wine portfolio.
Emanuel's philosophy and strong belief is that great wines are born in the vineyard, hence the team strives to grow fruit of the highest quality to produce a range of premium quality wines.
Recent advancements in the science of clonal diversity have enabled Flinders Run to pursue this unique opportunity, researching and working with industry professionals to identify each clone’s unique characteristics, their suitability to our region, its soils, and the climatic conditions.
Flinders Run has embraced this divergency across our vineyard sites, with this next generation of vineyard developments selecting only those clones that have clearly demonstrated their superiority, are low yielding and producing fruit of exceptional flavour and quality.
Emanuel’s understanding of this region’s unique terroir, and his ability to source water from its ancient aquifer becomes the life essence of the vineyard development, while combining these elements with his quest to embrace the science sees him develops a structured vineyard management and irrigation program that can be adjusted to complement each stage of the vine’s development.
The uniquely positioned ancient water source becomes the primary asset to the viticulture development, it ensures each varietal is grown and irrigated successfully and in harmony with the climatic conditions of the season, while this attention to detail allows the team to monitor the fruit closely ensuring each parcel of fruit reaches optimum maturity, capturing the diverse varietal expression from each of the varietals grown.
This meticulous attention to detail in the vineyard enables the winemaker the opportunity to craft and blend wines with finesse and elegance.
Flinders Run represents the family who defied the odds, a family who continues to pioneer this region, investing and planting new vineyards, and now introducing alternatives to the portfolio Emanuel and Laura are committed with an entrepreneurial vision to see not only their hard work pay off, but to see this new and emerging region come full circle and to fruition.
