For over 60 years the Coonawarra tower has stood tall, marking the
small township amongst the vines.
At just over 76m metres high, many feared that the ‘tower may fall’
with the very essence of Coonawarra providing the biggest
obstacle.
The famous red Terra Rossa soils covered a narrow foundation of
limestone rock, but at only 3 metres deep before hitting the aquifer
below locals feared that the footings would not hold.
