Wine Description
A beautiful expression of the aromatic varietal indigenous to north-eastern Italy, the Picolit is a lighter-style dessert wine. Largely unknown as a variety outside of Italy, & scarcely planted in Australia, Picolit is distinguished by its biennial bearing & comes from the Furlan dialect pecolut – meaning small stalks.A delicious dessert wine, a bouquet of fresh field flowers & honey character is evident on the nose. Richer notes of honey & toasted almonds abound on the palate, followed by a hint of phenolics. With 40 grams of sugar per litre, this dessert wine pairs beautifully with gorgonzola, poached pears or mille feuille.

With a 42-year career in the Yarra Valley & Heathcote, Mario Marson is one of Australia’s most experienced winemakers. For 17 years Mario was winemaker & viticulturalist at the renowned Mount Mary, working alongside the late Dr John Middleton. A formative experience, these years gave Mario a valuable understanding of the technical & creative skills required to produce premium, multiclonal wine. The other half of this dynamic father/daughter winemaking duo, Assistant winemaker Madeleine Marson is an emerging vigneron with a strong pedigree in research & holistic approach to winemaking & viticulture. Together they craft Italian varietals with personality & charm.
