Byron & Harold
Western Australia , Western Australia
Winery Overview
Byron & Harold was established by two lovers of wine, one from the West and one from the East, determined to find, package and present the wine they love in the way they love it.
Two lovers of wine, not just the drinking of it; but the romance of it, the history of it and the pleasure and - yes - inspiration it has given human beings for thousands of years.
Two gentlemen, really, in the true sense of the word, but with a secret admiration for the 19th century English poet who in his day was regarded as ‘mad, bad and dangerous to know.’
With more than a lifetime of combined experience in the Australian wine trade, these gentlemen seek out those parcels of wine that they believe Australian wine lovers really want to drink. Wines with flavour, wines that are true to their variety – wines with provenance.
The principal sources of grapes for Byron & Harold are the established regions of Margaret River and Great Southern.
They both enjoy growing conditions similar to that of Bordeaux, and are internationally regarded as premium cool climate destinations that produce elegant, distinctive wines with finesse and power.
Deep, rich soils, combined with the cooling Southern Ocean breezes allow for a long, even ripening period in the vineyard.
This slower ripening, in turn, results in fruit that has more intense flavour, more acidity and better balance which combine to make wines of flavour, intensity and elegance, and which beautifully match a wide range of foods.
This is what it is all about – warm days with cool nights that deliver wines that express unique regional and varietal characters with finesse, elegance and definition.
Since the first significant planting of vines in the early 1960s, the south west of Western Australia has grown to become regarded as potentially one of the great wine-producing areas of the world.

Winemaker Bio
Rory Parks (Chief Winemaker) always had an interest in Agriculture. After working in the vineyard during the summer holidays, he decided to pursue Viticulture and Oenology. The science of winemaking got him hooked, loving the way it combined agriculture with science and art.
Rory joined Byron & Harold with a wealth of industry experience, including a prior role with one of Western Australia’s most well-known producers, within which he was responsible for a broad range of wines on a commercial scale of over 500,000 cases per annum.
Rory’s goals include furthering his studies and knowledge, to keep growing as a winemaker, and winning the Jimmy Watson trophy!
Winemaker Kate Morgan’s wine journey began at an early age, with family holidays in Margaret River sparking a curiosity for winemaking. Her interest grew with work experience at Houghton Wines in the Swan Valley while still in High School.
After attaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Viticulture & Oenology she started exploring the world of wine. Kate now has over 20 vintages under her belt covering 10 wine regions in 4 countries. Her experience covers a very diverse range of styles and some memorable experiences, from the steep learning curve that was her first vintage in McLaren Vale, dancing in the old concrete lagers (special port fermenters) while making Port in the Douro Valley, some very frosty conditions making sparkling wine in the UK, the gravity fed barrel storage caves in Oregon, and all the incredible winemakers, viticulturists and cellar crew she has learnt from on her journey.
Luckily for us at Byron & Harold, she has brought back her wealth of experience to the part of the winemaking world she loves the most, Western Australia, where she has been for the last 12 years.
