Winemaker Bio
After studying agriculture in his native homeland of Holland, Bart turned his focus to vines and wine moving to Germany to study and work in the Pfalz. After graduating he worked in McLaren Vale SA, landing a position at Tinlins with Warren Randall and Steve Pannell where he expanded his experience over those 8 years including vintages in Burgundy and Priorat. In 2011 Bart moved to Mildura, taking up a position at the Chalmers Merbein vineyard getting back to the roots of viticulture. Inspired by the diverse nursery block, Bart helped instigate the Chalmers #bucketwine project, making super small batch vinification’s from rare and interesting varieties. He now heads the winemaking team at Chalmers across the multiple labels working both Heathcote and Merbein sites with a gentle hand and mindful respect to fruit and place.
