Ross Hill Wines is a family run and sustainable operation established in 1994 by Peter and Terri Robson, with son James and his wife Chrissy now taking over the reins.
Proud to be Australia’s first Climate Active carbon neutral certified winery and the first Australian producer of carbon neutral wines, Ross Hill has long been committed to sustainability and introduced several measures to reduce the company’s carbon footprint.
The original Ross Hill vineyard is situated on the gentle north facing slopes of Griffin Road, Orange at an elevation ranging from 750 to 850 metres. This vineyard consists of 13 hectares of vines which are over 20 years old. The white varietals grown are Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris and the reds are Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir. Our flagship red, Bordeaux-style blend - selected from the best of our Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc fruit - it embodies the soul of the original Griffin Road vineyard in Orange.
In the volcanic soils at the base of Mt Canobolas, 5 more hectares of vine were planted over 10 years ago. With an even higher altitude of 1020 metres above sea level, the Wallace Lane vineyard is one of the highest and coolest in Australia. This environment provides perfect conditions for varietals Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc. We have also just planted Chardonnay on our Wallace Lane Vineyard to take advantage of the higher altitude as a direct result of Climate Change.
Named "Best of the Best" in the 2022 Halliday Wine Companion, Ross Hill is the first winery in Orange to receive this accolade having held a 5 star rating continuously for 10 years.

Winemaker Bio
Born and raised surrounded by wine in South Australia, Luke Steele earned the Oenology Silver Medal at the prestigious University of Adelaide and he has since amassed an enviable amount of winemaking experience, awards and accolades. He honed his craft in both warm and cool climates at renowned estates including Alkoomi Wines, Craggy Range Vineyards, Maison Chapoutier, Joseph Phelps Vineyards, Jim Barry Wines, Reh Kendermann, Skillogalee, Dr Konstantin Frank and Lerida Estate. Luke has been at the helm of the Ross Hill Winery since 2019 and has been working diligently to refine and refocus the delicious portfolio that Ross Hill is famous for.
