Wine Description
They say Grenache is the Barossa’s Pinot… bugger that! Grenache is in a class all on its own!
The vineyard is my brother John’s playground, and crammed into the small acreage are 9 different clones of Grenache - cuttings taken (legally!) from vineyards in Barossa, McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek.
For this Grenache, we harvested and made each individual parcel separately to determine the different flavour profiles of each clone, specific to our soils and environment. We settled on a mix of Barossa and McLaren Vale clones to make the final blend.
30% of the fruit was fermented whole bunch, and remainder as whole berry. Cooler fermentation temperatures and 6 months in old French oak puncheons on MLF lees where the very simple but defining winemaking approaches taken to achieve the style we were aiming for.
Accolades
Pretty, fragrant and lifted aromatics of cherry, dried flowers, red confectionery and sweet spice. Mid-weight, bright and lively in flavour. There's lashings of red fruits, spice and an earthy brambliness. The tannins are shapely and firm and the acidity delivers cut and shape.
