“The McLaren Vale Cricket Ground was the late, great Greg Trott’s vision for a world-class facility to lure the finest players for games, while enjoying the famous Trott hospitality. That dream remained unrealised, so we have a cabernet – another Trott passion – that bears its initials instead. There are pitch-perfect varietal notes on the nose, combing cabernet’s herbal character with blackcurrant, plum, wild red berries and mulberry. There’s intensity of fruit, but the linear structure of cabernet runs the show, and to excellent effect. This needs a little time and/or a little air to loosen the tension in the finish, but it’s compelling value.”

“Another exceptional value from a producer on the rise. A little sweeter of fruit and looser at the seams than its value-oriented siblings. A crowd pleaser as a result. Damson plums, boysenberries, currants and dried sage. Tapenade doused across the tannins. Good length, driven by density of extract and the heady personality of the fruit.”

“The 2022 MVCG entices immediately as it radiates bright and pristine aromas of cassis, leaf and licorice with a well-matched line of toasty oak. So appealing with its rich layers of flavour that are approachable, plus a streamlined shape that is underpinned by firm yet manicured tannins. Delicious and will age well.”
