Credaro Wines
Margaret River , Western Australia
Winery Overview
Credaro Family Estate is one of the oldest family-run wineries in the South-West of Western Australia.
The first Fragola cuttings planted by Great Grandfather, Cesare Credaro, in 1922 seeded four generations (so far) of farming and winemaking in the region.
Cesare and brother Olympio migrated to Australia in 1921. They made the arduous three month journey by sea from northern Italy to Fremantle Port before settling in Carbanup, just north of Margaret River, in 1922. Initially they worked in the timber and agriculture industries, and built bridges for the first railways and roads in the region.
Cesare worked on wineries through the 1920s and ‘30s, and it was from the Meleri Vineyard in Yallingup that those first Fragola cuttings came. At first small plots of vines were planted and the fruit used to produce table wine for the family and neighbours.
Credaro’s first commercial foray into the wine industry came in the ‘80s, when they began supplying fruit to established local wineries. Robert Credaro (Cesare’s grandson) led the growth in commercial operations over the next three decades, including the first commercial planting in 1988 with his father, Albert.
Today five members of the family, Robert and sons Matt, Mike, Chris and Jason, manage and farm 140 hectares of vineyards across five sites in the South-West. They only use their own fruit to produce wine at their 1200-tonne winery in Carbanup, which was built in 2003.

Winemaker Bio
Winemaker Trent Kelly’s strong interest in the wine industry was formed in 1995, when his parents built a holiday house in the Yallingup Hills. A number of iconic Margaret River wineries were a stone’s throw away. Foreseeing this as a lifestyle choice, viticulture was Trent’s chosen career. In 1999 Trent began working in the vineyards of the Margaret River region, with stints in cellar during vintage.
In 2000, Trent commenced his university degree at Curtin University of Technology in Western Australia, initially studying viticulture but then moving to viticulture and winemaking in 2001, although viticulture was always the end goal.
In 2002, Trent worked at d’Arenberg Wines in McLaren Vale and his love for winemaking superseded his need to tend vines. In short, his love affair with wine was born!
Trent held his first winemaking position in 2004, and with this experience behind him he was lucky enough to be approached to work in the Niagara Peninsula in Canada as an Assistant Winemaker for 2005 and 2006 with a newly formed and hugely successful producer, mainly working with high end Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Riesling.
Upon his return to Australia in 2007, Trent recommenced working in a leading Margaret River winery, initially as a vintage Cellar Hand then working up to Client Winemaker in 2008.
Trent’s desire to learn all things wine was still burning bright and he embarked on a 6 month journey in 2010 that lead him to Europe. Working in Languedoc, France and the Mosel region in Germany helped drive his winemaking to a new level. Returning to Australia, Trent and his wife moved to Melbourne, where he was lucky enough to spend one year under the guidance of Steve Flamsteed at Giants Steps in the Yarra Valley.
In 2011 Trent returned to Western Australia to take on a role as Winemaker at WA’s largest Contract crush facility. New ownership took over the winery in 2013 and this lead to a promotion to Senior Winemaker.
Trent’s desire to return to a premium focussed producer lead to his movement to the Credaro team as winemaker in January 2016. In May 2017, Trent was promoted to Chief Winemaker.
The Credaro brand pays homage to the hard work of previous generations, and as Chief Winemaker Trent’s focus is to ensure this this is not forgotten, and to grow that legacy for generations to come.
