‘Levrier’, French word meaning ‘Greyhound’, indulges Winemaker Jo Irvine’s passion for her noble and majestic greyhound companions into her winemaking career.
In creating “Levrier by Jo Irvine” Jo was all about the noble nature of some of the “forgotten” grape varietals and the exploration of “newer”, less known varieties. The Barossa Valley is famous for growing Shiraz, however the story of diversity and heritage within the region, must be upheld. By creating fine wines from Noble Varieties initially planted in the Barossa, Levrier by Jo Irvine is playing a vital role in supporting the local grape growing families to keep these varieties planted for future generations, whist retaining the Barossa’s heritage and wider tasting experiences for all lovers of fine wines.
Winemaker Jo Irvine personally selects single vineyard premium grapes from each vineyard site, making the most of her long-standing relationships with dedicated growers in Eden Valley and Barossa Valley to create her distinctive, vegan friendly wines using the historical Noble Grape Varieties of Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, completing the Levrier Collection with Pinot Gris, Cabernet Franc, Zinfandel and Shiraz.
The Levrier Collection also contains a Sparkling wine created from Adelaide Hills grown Meslier grape variety, so distinct that it is arguably the World’s rarest single varietal sparkling wine currently being produced. Originating in France, Meslier is one of the seven historical varieties permitted in Champagne production. There are less than 20 hectares of Meslier in Epernay and less than two hectares of Meslier planted in Australia. After years of researching and style development, Joanne is delighted to present her Adelaide Hills Sparkling Meslier Brut Rosé to the world.

Barossa born multi trophy winning Wine Maker Joanne Irvine is a highly sought after, small batch wine making specialist. Jo left home to pursue a career spanning 18 years as a nurse until she had what she describes as a “mid- life crisis” and became a winemaker.
Creating wines since 1993, including vintages in Sonoma and Napa USA, Jo could never have guessed that at age 7, while following her winemaking father around a winery, she would have started a successful wine consulting company in 2003 and created her own dynamic wine brand in 2014, Levrier by Jo Irvine.
