Silver Spoon Estate
Central Victoria , Victoria
Winery Overview
Silver Spoon Estate is a boutique producer of premium wines, situated in the heart of the Heathcote Wine Region. The name is derived from the silver mine that operated on the property many years ago.
Peter and Tracie Young are the owners and operators. Peter has principle reponsibility for the vineyard production and winery, whilst Tracie manages the cellar door, restaurant, and marketing.
Our wines are estate-grown, and our vineyards are managed according to the principles of sustainable viticulture. They feature low-yielding, unirrigated vines planted in the deep, rocky volcanic soils for which Heathcote is renowned. There are 20ha vines, with blocks located on either side of the Mount Camel ridge which are planted with Shiraz, Viognier, Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Tempranillo. The vineyard is managed without irrigation, and with a sustainable approach to fertilisation and soil health. The vine roots penetrate into the deep volcanic soils, with the ability to produce wines of exceptional intensity, flavour and varietal character, with the potential to age gracefully for many years.
Our winery operates entirely off-grid, with 95% of our electricity needs supplied by solar panels and a battery. The cellar door, restaurant, and residence also operate off-grid. Our winemaking approach is largely based on traditional, low-intervention practices, but we readily incorporate modern technological advances to enhance the quality of our products and the efficiency of our operations.
Our wines have received numerous accolades and awards, most notably our 2018 Hallmark Shiraz, which received an equal top score of 98 points and ranked second out of 319 entries in the 2022 Winestate World’s Greatest Shiraz Challenge.
