Established in 1967 by regional pioneer Dr Tom Cullity, Vasse Felix is Margaret River’s founding wine estate.
Located in one of the great wine regions of the world, Margaret River, the Estate enjoys a truly unique environment and climate which makes it a paradise for winemakers and wine lovers alike. From the first plantings right up to the modern day, Vasse Felix has always strived to explore and express the very best of the Margaret River region and to share it globally.
Owned by the Holmes a Court family since 1987, Vasse Felix has carefully expanded its vineyards over the decades to include three distinct and exceptional sites around the Margaret River region. Each vineyard is matched to the best possible varieties and clones, and farmed sustainably using traditional and organic principles.
Vasse Felix’s wines reflect the varietal strengths of Margaret River, with a focus on cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay, as well as shiraz and sauvignon blanc / semillon blends. All wines are vinified with minimal intervention and bottled within the Estate’s modern winery, situated at their Home Vineyard overlooking the Wilyabrup Brook. The Vasse Felix winemaking philosophy is founded on the beliefs that great wines are made in the vineyard, must be authentic expressions of their place, and are the work of a great team of passionate people.
The Vasse Felix Estate - also located at the Home Vineyard - is renowned. Featuring a tasting room, wine lounge, art gallery, wine museum and one of Australia’s most acclaimed restaurants, visitors are welcomed from all around the world, eager for the ultimate Vasse Felix experience. Winemaker Bio
Virginia Willcock joined as Chief Winemaker at Vasse Felix in October 2006. She has an insatiable curiosity for the role microbiology plays in grapes and vineyards in making more site expressive wines. She has completed 30 vintages in Margaret River, and worked international vintages in Albania, Italy in Trentino, Sicily and Abruzzo as well as New Zealand.
Virginia is one of the most awarded female winemakers in Australia, having been named ‘Gourmet Traveller WINE Australian Winemaker of the Year’ in 2012 and ‘Winemaker of the Year’ in the 2017 Australian Women in Wine Awards. A respected authority on Margaret River winemaking, Virginia has represented the region as presenter and panellist at numerous international events.
