Wine Description
Our Single Block Estate Mataro from the great 2021 vintage comes from block 3 of
our Home Vineyard in Stone Well. This block is very old bush vine Mataro. The
block and resulting wine is certified organic. The soil in this section of the
vineyard is deep gravelly loam over red clay and mottled clay.
The wine has all the hallmarks of old vine Mataro in a great vintage – bright
purple red hue, lifted earthy florals, textural, medium to full bodied with layers of
fine savoury tannin. A wine that just screams out for food but due to the richness
of the vintage can be enjoyed on its own.
Winemaker's Bio
Andrew has been making globally recognised wines since 1995. He has an impressive 26 vintages under his belt, with 18 of these in senior winemaking roles.
He has played a major role in developing a number of successful businesses from infancy; most notably as General Manager and Winemaker for Torbreck Vineyards, and Founding Partner and Senior Winemaker for Murray Street Vineyards, both located in the renowned north west region of Barossa Valley.
Andrew joined forces with Brett Hayes to develop a portfolio of exceptional, small-batch wines from the Barossa Valley, Eden Valley, Adelaide Hills and Coonawarra under the Hayes Family Wines label.
