Wine Description
COLOUR
Dark and yet bright and as if it could shine black light at midnight.
AROMA
Powdered concentrate of plum extract used to flavour Elven bread. Moss on a dark ravine’s sunless wall. Mint and blackberry intertwined in some fairytale ending. A blend of all the aromatics of the Barossa and the barest bouquet of the lady-winemaker’s art (or is that deception?) Aniseed and blackberry and eucalyptus and raisins; cedar and vanilla and the bloodied sawdust of a butcher’s shop floor. Heroic and harmful and on the wing.
PALATE
Fine red wine - which we submit this is - is always about a sweet-spot. The line between fruit ripeness and fruit savouriness. It can seem apparent in some wines; in others it has a quiet reserve. This wine has a diving-bell depth of black fruits; yet in the next sip those same fruits seem to soar, as if in Spring flower. Tannins then trail as if in clouds of glory - or are they a dark wake in a gravel sea? You need another glass to see.
OVERALL
From vineyard to glass a line of awkward veracity runs, as if some red wine can know more than truth or beauty, or both. Which is why a Weisswurst Sausage and a spoonful of German Mustard can resolve the corollary, almost.
