Wine Description
Richly textured and boldly complex, white wines made from red grapes challenge convention. Around the world, winemakers have embraced this approach with varieties like Tempranillo in Spain, Pinotage in South Africa, Sangiovese in Italy, and Pinot Noir in Champagne. With access to outstanding Shiraz but no place for it in our red wine portfolio, our winemaking team saw an opportunity. The solution lay within the challenge itself - creating a White Shiraz that redefines how this iconic Australian variety can be enjoyed. A true expression of innovation, it reflects our Alpine Road range’s spirit of discovery.
A rich and vibrant wine displaying aromas of ripe orchard fruits, wild grasses, summer flowers and star fruit. A harmonious and balanced palate showcasing ripe fruit flavours and subtle oak intertwined with complex almond, cashew and honeysuckle characters. This full bodied wine has the perfect amount of body, texture and persistent finish. The perfect pairing with an aged Gruyère cheese.
Winemaker's Bio
Toni Pla Bou has worked in the wine industry for twenty five years, working for Houghton Wines, Coldstream Hills, Evans & Tate, Berton Vineyards and as a flying winemaker in Corsica, Roussillon, Gaillac and Corbière with Jean Marc Lafage. Studies in Philosophy and French have informed his understanding of wine, in relation to style, aesthetic and cultural value. Having a Catalonian heritage, Toni has always been passionate about wines from either side of the Pyrenean border: Grenache, Tempranillo, Grenache Blanc, Macabeo and more. Through his winemaking, Toni is inspired by the topographical and climatic affinities between the Alpine Valleys and the European Pyrenees.
