Wine Description
Patience is a virtue and you’d be well served to exercise it with this punchy number. The fruit was plucked from a block planted to select cuttings from four estate Shiraz parcels. There’s power behind its deep, dark, veil. Intense Dutch liquorice, a medley of blackcurrant and black olive aromas lead the pack. The palate packs a punch. Luscious stewed plums, cranberries, cocoa, a pinch of rosemary, and searing acidity (the likes of which reduce you to a delightfully dribbling mess). Bury it deep in your cellar. It will embrace the test of time.
Winemaker's Bio
Alex Peel (Chief Winemker) who comes from a long line of farmers, decided that his love of the country (and back-breaking labour) could best be embraced through pursuit of the vinous arts. He completed a Bachelor Degree of Oenology at Waite Campus in 2014 and after working vintage under the legendary Neville Falkenberg at Ross Estate, he accepted the Assistant Winemaker position following a US vintage. After 10 years, and promotion to Head Winemaker, Chateau Yaldara poached him for the role of Chief Winemaker a year into his tenure.
After multiple vintages, making a myriad of wines for the biggest names in the Barossa Wine industry, Alex accepted an offer to helm Greenock Creek Wines in 2019 after the retirement of the founding owners.
Peter Atyeo (Vineyard Manager, Winemaker): “Ads”, a name bestowed upon Peter during his time on a cattle-run in a place called Morgan, about 161 kms north east of Adelaide, is known as a straight-forward, down-to-earth, humble and unassuming bloke.
Working as Company Viticulturist, Vineyard Manager and Winemaker for Greenock Creek Wines since 2007, Peter lives by the well-worn idea that wine is made in the vineyard. Each plot is tended with a view to delivering the highest quality grapes to be converted into wine.
He is dedicated to producing fruit that maintains Greenock Creek’s characterful and intense expression of Barossa wine. Within the vineyard portfolio, Peter manages multiple vineyard sites, with vines ranging from 90 to 130 years old.
At the foundation of Peter’s passion for viticulture is the preservation of these vines to ensure their long-term sustainability and a place in Barossa’s history.
