Schild Estate Wines
Barossa Valley , South Australia
Winery Overview
Schild Estate create wines with a passion and authenticity that comes through generations of a family who have made the Barossa their home. With over 134ha of Estate-owned vineyards spread across 11 unique sites they take advantage of the patchwork of soils and mesoclimates.
This diversity allows them to produce a range of premium fruit each displaying the unique characteristics of its patch of Barossan dirt. With higher altitudes and slightly cooler climates Schild Estate wines are known for their super-fine tannin structure, a characteristic unique to the Southern Barossa, as well as their refreshing, vibrant fruit flavours, balance and complexity.
Within these vineyards they have the privilege of being the current custodians of some of the oldest vines in both the Barossa Valley and the world. From shiraz planted in 1847 to Grenache planted in 1912 these vines have stood the test of time and continue to yield consistently high-quality fruit that produces wines with an elegant intensity.
Under the guidance of Chief Winemaker, Scott Hazeldine, the winemaking team run a state-of-the-art winery. As one of the largest grape growers in the region Schild Estate boast the benefit not only of guaranteed supply, but also the invaluable resources of winemaker and vigneron working hand in hand throughout the year. Where one vintage ends, the other begins.
As a family-owned business Ed Schild remains the director of the company, a role he’s been in since the tender age of 16 after his father suddenly passed away. Ed’s son Michael now manages the vineyards while his daughter, Leanne is the Exports & Logistics Manager. Now the new generation of grandchildren are starting to take an interest in carrying on the Schild story.

Winemaker Bio
Scott Hazeldine, Chief Winemaker, joined the Schild Estate family in 2009 bringing with him a wealth of knowledge and experience from time spent both locally and abroad.
Born and raised in Malawi, Scott was educated in the UK but lured to Australia by a love of wine culture with his fate sealed by his first vintage with Brown Brothers. Since then he has worked throughout the Barossa Valley with the likes of Stuart Blackwell, Matt Gant and Tim Smith before joining Bordeaux based “garagiste” producer Jonathan Maltus in his Australian operation Colonial Estate.
Seasoning his experience with time in Saint Emilion, Bordeaux and Napa Valley Scott has brought to Schild Estate an excitement and passion for winemaking that simultaneously honours traditions worthy of working with some of the world’s oldest vines whilst maintaining an enthusiasm for continuous discovery.
